Not Another How To Twitter Post

And not intended for experienced Twitter users but more a guide for Front Office Box users who are interested in using the service, from a business perspective.

With media types flocking to Twitter, and using their shows to promote their contributions, the popularity is exploding.  Like everything else on the Internet, Twitter is becoming “shark infested waters”.  Add that to the “personal” messages people post -( e.g. my close friends might be interested I’m off to play golf but the vast majority of people aren’t) the whole thing can seem just too difficult.

But new joiners shouldn’t be put off by this.  There are thousands of statements and conversations going on.  Finding the right conversations, and like minded people is the challenge.

Luckily there are some services provided (free) by some generous people that help us monitor the noise for the bits we’re interested in.

Twellow provides a directory of people in categories – go their to find the ones likely to be interested in similar topics to yourself.

Twollow monitors subjects for you, and automatically sets up your follow of people who post on the topics that interest you.  Confusingly Twollo (no w) is doing the same thing.

Lastly Twitter Search is monitoring the stream and will tell when, and who, posts containing your topic.

Unfortunately I can’t remember who (sorry) but somebody explained Twitter is like standing on a corner in Times Square and listening for five seconds to what each passed by says.

With these services you don’t have to stand there, and you’re not limited to five seconds.  They will catch and report every occasion your favorite subject gets a mention, and tell you about it.

How cool is that?
