Don’t really understand why it’s taken me so long but eventually I discovered Zemanta, a service which helps you relate blog posts to other Internet content.
On face value it’s a very useful productivity tool – as you write a blog post Zemanta checks your piece, building it’s own picture of the content and suggesting links to other articles including images and videos.
You have full control over which links Zemanta adds to your words, and the tags which it suggests you use. But with a couple of clicks you can accept the suggestions and Zemanta will do the rest.
For example, with this post Zemanta has suggested a number of related articles including the video and these articles:

All of this is very interesting, but there’s something else.
While this helpful stuff is going on Zemanata must be recording and indexing every page and, I guess, offering your article to other users for inclusion in their own posts.
So maybe (?) Zemanta is actually another content publishing resource, but infinitely more useful than the traditional sites e.g. Ezine Articles. If that’s the case we’ll soon see the links showing up.
Meantime there is one concern – Page Rank.
Google gives us credit, in terms of page rank, for content we publish and accelerates that rank for any links to our stuff from higher ranked pages.
I’ve seen “leakage” mentioned, suggesting if the link to pages with a lower rank than our own Google starts to depreciate our page rank.
We certainly wouldn’t want that.
More later.

Zemanta makes it just easier to link to other pages. It's still up to you, the write, to decided who to link to. Zemanta leaves you full editorial control, so you just click on things that you think would benefit your readers.
