Up until now we’ve seen three dimensions to the Internet:
- Paid Search Advertising
- Organic Search for Information
- Social Media Engagement
with Google owning the first two and Facebook etc, owning the third. In the background we’ve had a lot of new(ish) services providing users with the ability to share content, and building indexes of content to rival Google’s.
Google has pretty much owned the relationship between businesses and the Internet whilst Facebook has owned the relationship between people and the Internet.
But this week we’ve seen two major moves by Facebook which will change the game for most users and open a world of possibilities for small businesses.
First – it acquired Friendfeed, for most the premier content aggregation and sharing service
Second it quietly released Search.
We’ve written a number of articles describing how the Business Internet is emerging and describing where we think this offers opportunities, and threats to small businesses.
You can find these at the Front Office Box Business Internet category
