Should you be using Business Internet Tools? Yes – here’s why.
- Cheaper, Safer, Simpler than local software, and most often free.
- New technologies provide new capabilities.
- Building an Internet presence.
- Find, and be found.
I understand there are lots of people wedded to their Microsoft Office. After ten tears they’re used to it, so there’s not much learning to do, until Microsoft changes something.
I understand there are people who just aren’t comfortable having their information stored up in the cloud. Somehow it seems so much safer on our local machine. That is until they collect a Trojan somewhere, or the hard drive fails, or they leave their laptop on a plane.
I understand there are people who don’t want to share their information. After all knowledge is power and hiding our information away in systems only we understand feels powerful. It’s also inefficient, and probably incorrect, at least in part.
My personal perspective is Internet based software is cheaper, safer, more capable, and easier to use. That’s plenty of reasons to use it.
But there’s a much bigger reason – being connected to that big world out there.
When out software runs on our desktop our vision is limited. It’s like watching a football match through a telescope. We can only see one tiny part of what’s going on, and through only one eye.
When we’re connected there’s an endless choice of services to help us understand what’s going on, find people to do business with, and be found.
Even Microsoft has been forced to accept the advantages of Internet based software – hence Live and Bing, and whatever else it’s going to come up with.
